Every time I go to Cleveland Park Cajun joint Spicy Boy’s, I tell myself, “I’m not going to get the gumbo this time. There’s a whole world of Creole cuisine to explore, today’s going to be different.” Then I get one whiff of the gumbo and immediately cave. A great gumbo has depth, and you could get lost in the densely layered stew cooked up by Spicy Boy’s — it has all the right elements, working beautifully together for an utterly addicting combination of smoke, spice, heat and salt. One day, other menu items. One day.
