It’s said that the main distinction between soul food and Nashville’s iconic meat-and-three fare is who is doing the cooking. While Arnold’s is lost and lamented, Silver Sands is another family-owned restaurant with a very familiar setup. You still order your choice of delicious meats and vegetables from a steam table, and daily offerings like fried chicken, catfish and pork chops are augmented with daily specials such as turkey-and-dressing, meatloaf and pork ribs that are definitely reminiscent of the Arnold’s experience. Add in classic soul-food dishes like oxtails, neck bones and hog maws, and it might be (dare I say it?) even better.
