Truffles are overrated. I’m sick of having them trotted out and shaved over pasta that, if it were properly balanced to start, shouldn’t need them! Thus I did not order this sandwich, but I’m thrilled that they brought it anyway. Listed under “Rich & Savory,” this sandwich is essentially a grilled cheese with prosciutto, truffle aioli, white cheddar cheese and togarashi — a Japanese spice mix packed with fragrant ingredients like roasted orange peel, sesame seeds and red chili pepper. The funk of truffle mayo makes an odd, delightful symphony with the earthy togarashi, salty ham and creamy, oozy cheddar. All you pointless truffle shavers, take note.
