At the risk of sounding like a 13-year-old boy, Osh — Nashville’s first Uzbek restaurant — had me at jiz-biz, which internet research reveals is a traditional Uzbek dish created eons ago by shepherds. What our plate of chicken jiz-biz revealed was tender chunks of roast chicken sautéed with onions, peppers, mushrooms and tomatoes, served with a scoop of saffron-flecked rice and a ramekin of minty yogurt. It’s highly unlikely I’ll ever travel to Uzbekistan, but Osh delivers a delectable deep dive into the country’s specialties, from savory starters like somsa and suzma to the crispy, cheesy, subtly sweet dessert kunefe.
