All right, so I’m breaking the rules a little bit with this category. (I’ve been here long enough — I get to do that.) As the Scene’s readers and writers alike have noted time and again, the Prince family — the originators of the now-global phenomenon hot chicken — simply can’t be beaten at their own game. Miss André Prince Jeffries and the rest of the folks at longtime Nashville institution Prince’s Hot Chicken Shack make Nashville’s best hot chicken. Period. But in the interest of spreading the love around a bit, we’re officially awarding (Second)-Best Hot Chicken to 400 Degrees. Founder Aqui Hines and her team have been at it for more than a decade now, cooking up first-rate fiery fowl with four different heat levels (0 Degrees, 100 Degrees, 200 Degrees and a dangerously powerful full-heat 400 Degrees). Now they’ve got locations both on Clarksville Pike and in the Nashville International Airport, where hopefully they’ll be whipping up authentic, blazing-hot chicken for many years to come.
