When you know that Pearl Diver’s Jamie White is behind Lucky’s 3 Star, it all makes sense. While the vibe is decidedly dive bar, the backbone is cheffy, in that “yes, it’s a hot dog, but it’s a friggin’ killer hot dog” way. Play a game of pool or watch an in-booth TV. Grab a gin Rickey or a Coors Banquet. Pair either with a Frito pie or a $7 Curry Dog (potato, scallion, garlic, fried onions, Japanese curry) that blows anything Daddy’s Dogs makes out of the water. (Sorry, Phil.) The best part? This place will be as packed at 2 a.m. as 8 p.m. — if not more.
