Unlike two decades ago when Corrado Savarino first opened his authentic Italian bakery in the Walmart shopping center on Nolensville Road, you won’t be run out of Savarino’s Bakery in Columbia for confusing biscotti and biscuits. Eldest son Carmelo learned everything he knows about bread, biscotti, cannoli, sfogliatelle, cookies, tiramisu and bomboloni from his dad at Savarino’s Cucina on Belcourt Avenue, and pasta and sauces from mama Marie. When the Belcourt spot closed in 2017, Carmelo focused on a small building they purchased and renovated in Columbia, and in 2019 launched wholesale operations from Savarino’s Bakery, now open for retail Friday and Saturday.
