Painkillers outside the British Virgin Islands are usually sickly sweet, but put them in the hands of Cajuns? They’ll make those suckers strong, lightly sweet, and did I mention strong? For the unfamiliar, painkillers are made of rum, pineapple, orange, nutmeg and an ingredient that can make any drink fat and fabulous: cream of coconut. This simple syrup is made with coconut milk instead of water, has 50 calories per tablespoon, and is worth every damn one of those calories for the creamy depth it delivers. A Spicy Boy’s painkiller on their French Quarter-style patio with hot crawfish? Nola can’t do it any better.
