Every year, musicians from Nashville across a wide variety of disciplines get well-known far beyond the city limits. Not often is it that those who get recognized are making instrumental music built on traditions from jazz and electronic composition. Rich Ruth and his merry band have been all over the U.S. and elsewhere in the past year, including supporting artists like All Them Witches and Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, and blowing away festival audiences at Bonnaroo and Big Ears among others. Their groove-centric brand of music encourages you to be present for it, and that’s resonating with a lot of people whose tastes don’t always intersect.
