Willie Jones shows himself exceptionally adept at producing earworms on his second LP, Something to Dance To, an album that lives up to the promise of its name. Hailing from Shreveport, La., Jones went viral as a teenager for his 2012 X Factor audition in which he sang Josh Turner’s “Your Man,” a classic pick for singing-show contestants. Now he’s shining in his confident sound that fuses country, R&B, hip-hop and zydeco. As a Black artist in a genre that often doesn’t give Black artists an equal platform, Jones claims space as an innovator who also faithfully honors the long legacy of Black country musicians.
