Joy Oladokun has spent 2023 playing shows all over town and elsewhere, and she was on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert just after the release of Proof of Life in April. The album, which was co-produced with Oladokun, Mike Elizondo, Ian Fitchuk, Dan Wilson and Alysa Vanderheym, also features Noah Kahan, Chris Stapleton and Manchester Orchestra. That list may make it seem all-over-the-place, but the effort is cohesive and beautiful. From the anthemic “We’re All Gonna Die” to the more pensive “Somebody Like Me,” Oladokun showcases an array of rock, folk, pop and beyond. She’s all the proof we need.
