In July, The Sleeveens — who removed “Stef and” from their name prior to their September LP Hospital Verses — dropped a flawless punk single in the spirit of the great collectible artyfacts of the late ’70s. Dubliner-turned-Tennessean Stef Murphy writes tunes that burrow their way into your dome, with razor-sharp lyrics to boot. The A-side is a power-pop earworm, backed with a flipside that retells to the awkward encounters we’ve all shared when turning up at a show too early. The single is a family affair of sorts, recorded at bassist Jamie Mechan’s 302 Sound and released by drummer Ryan Sweeney’s Sweet Time Records.
