There is always a fear that when a band hits their official “mature” release that it’s code for “boring.” The punk sensations of Be Your Own Pet called it quits in 2008 after two albums, while they were still in their early 20s. They followed up a successful return to the stage last year with Mommy, released in August. While the lyrics reflect the shifts in the members’ lives, the BYOP crew never shies away from the kind of ferociousness that made them great in the first place. The whip-smart lyrics and nasty guitar riffs are still as untamed as ever.
