On April 26, the Metro Council approved $2.1 billion in financing to replace the 24-year-old Nissan Stadium. Just nine days later, that dilapidated old thing became the cultural epicenter of the city as approximately 212,000 people attended Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour over the course of three nights. In July, Beyoncé’s Renaissance Tour drew another 50,000-plus fans. Since the stadium is so outdated that it doesn’t even have a roof, hundreds more fans gathered nearby to soak in the music from outside. Nissan Stadium’s final concert date will probably go to a country star, but this summer’s shows felt like a strange, poignant sendoff to the venue.
