After the Tennessee state legislature passed new laws targeting gender-affirming care and drag performances, Nashville artists and activists and allies from elsewhere quickly responded by producing events to benefit organizations supporting the LGBTQ community. On March 20, drag queens and an array of musicians — Hayley Williams, Becca Mancari, Amanda Shires, Jason Isbell, Maren Morris, Joy Oladokun, Izzy Heltai, Jake Wesley Rogers, Autumn Nicholas, Mya Byrne, Adeem the Artist and many, many more — performed together in the nearly four-hour Love Rising concert at Bridgestone Arena. Organized by Allison Russell (who also performed at the show) in partnership with the Looking Out Foundation and others, Love Rising offered Nashvillians musicians a vital space to celebrate and fight for queer visibility in Tennessee.Â
