My favorite review of much-loved punk troupe Snooper’s debut LP Super Snooper is from Kerrang!, which proposed that it might be “a low-key concept album about working out.” It’s an easy assumption to make, if the first thing you notice is a band in nylon track suits with song titles like “Fitness” (whose corresponding music video revolves around a track meet), “Stretching” and “Running.” Snooper’s hyperactive staccato mania is a callback to the spirit of primitive, angular art rock, but with snappy hooks and keen lyricism. Short songs, witty lyrics, choppy guitars and bouncy beats define the sound of the 23-minute record. Super Snooper might be the most fun album Nashville has given the greater punk world.
