But plenty of Nashville musicians are adept at harnessing technology, and Proteins of Magic’s Kelly Sherrod stands tall among them. This year, the New Zealand-born songsmith has played around Nashville and internationally, bringing her emotionally intense songs to life with layers of performances — on keys, flute, electric bass and acoustic guitar and with her deep, rich voice, all recorded into loops and manipulated in real time — plus projected animation she controls with a pedal. Even with the potential for the tech to become the star of the show, Sherrod’s songs always have the spotlight.
