It’s been a landmark year for Knoll, a sonically disturbing six-piece death squad. After dropping their demo five years ago as Memphis high-schoolers, the band moved their base of operations to Middle Tennessee. Their avant-garde approach to the heaviest of music is terrifying and expansive — death-metal riffing and turbulent blast beats with distorted electronic chaos and skronky free-jazz horns. Building on their two brilliant LPs, 2021’s Interstice and 2022’s Metemperic, the band spent 2023 building a following with the local underground, as well as sweeping the country with D.C. death-grinders No/Más and Rust Belt hardcore kings Negative Approach — and they just announced their first U.K./European tour for November.
