Even though Michelin spoiled the surprise by accidentally leaking the list of star winners the morning before the official ceremony, it only confirmed what we already knew — Nashville is a premier culinary center of the Southern region. Sure, Emeril’s in New Orleans won two stars, and Atlanta has eight starred restaurants, but the Lagasse family has been cooking at Emeril’s for 36 years, and none of the Atlanta winners were new this year. With Bastion, The Catbird Seat and Locust all receiving the coveted star recognition, Nashville definitely stole the spotlight. Clearly the compilers of the Michelin Guide were impressed by Nashville’s culinary scene, because they are bringing this year’s American South awards ceremony to town on Oct. 21. Just don’t spill the beans early this year, tire people!
