Curator Katie Delmez began formulating Multiplicity: Blackness in Contemporary American Collage about 10 years ago, when the Frist hosted the 30 Americans showcase of the Rubell Family Collection. This exhibition, which opened in September and stays on view at the Frist through Dec. 31, shows every bit of that time and consideration. There are 52 artists represented in the expansive, nuanced exhibition, which is required viewing for anyone interested in collage, Black culture or the kinds of complex ideas that are best communicated through contemporary art.
