Audiobook listeners know the narrator’s voice can make or break the experience. When it comes to her audiobooks, Ann Patchett does not play. Her last novel, The Dutch House, was read by Tom Hanks. Her latest novel, Tom Lake, is read by Meryl Streep. It had not occurred to me that I would like to hear 11 hours and 22 minutes of Meryl Streep’s voice in my ears as I take my mental health walks. Let me tell you, I can’t go back. If you come across me in the woods months from now and I’m relistening to Tom Lake, mind your business.
