Nashville Ballet’s longtime artistic director Paul Vasterling has often found inspiration in the most unlikely of places. In fact, in creating his newest work, Anthology, he discovered a host of beautiful but often-overlooked stories at the Nashville City Cemetery. Offering a powerful blend of movement, music, projected imagery and local history, Anthology introduced audiences to everyone from the formerly enslaved philanthropist Lucinda Bedford to Nashville’s first policewomen, Elizabeth Goodwin and Gertrude Whitney. It proved to be a worthy way to celebrate Vasterling’s final season as Nashville Ballet’s artistic director, while reminding us that everyone’s story deserves to be told.
