Alicia Haymer has floored us again. The triple-threat actor-playwright-director rolled up her sleeves to do all three of those jobs in Actors Bridge Ensemble’s Heavy. It’s a play about the old wounds of a family, and children who hope a little magic can repair bigotry. Shawn Whitsell, playing the veteran son unable to put the war behind him, was especially striking. His character’s ache burned and radiated. When the lights came on, no one in the audience moved or made a sound. That’s power.
