The Belcourt’s special projects associate Sheronica Hayes curated our favorite repertory series this year. Beloved: A Spotlight Series on Black Female Filmmakers included essential cinema classics, like Julie Dash’s gauzy, powerful Daughters of the Dust, and some little-known gems, like Ayoka Chenzira’s energizing Alma’s Rainbow. With special add-ons, like Ciona Rouse’s post-Daughters poetry workshop, the series provided opportunities for meaningful engagement and celebration of these wide-ranging films.
