We know what you’re thinking: Sound Riot must be some hip new punk band. It’s actually the hippest indie classical group to hit Nashville since chatterbird. Sound Riot has much in common with other indie classical groups, as it performs in clubs instead of concert halls, in a style that blurs the line between indie rock and art music. But Sound Riot is unique in at least two respects. First, its personnel consists entirely of women, something rare even among rock bands. And second, the group has its own resident composer in Cristina Spinei. This combination has produced a serious and stylish band that will likely dominate Nashville’s indie classical scene for years to come. JOHN PITCHER
