Best Dig at Music Row

There’s a lot to recommend Wrangled, the sophomore solo album by Angaleena Presley, a longtime pro songwriter and one-third of Pistol Annies (with Ashley Monroe and Miranda Lambert). Marvelous collaborations with Guy Clark and Wanda Jackson complement a fine crop of songs that as a unit, give the finger to the commercial country machine for undervaluing her talent. Then she does a victory dance with this hard-driving, scathingly tongue-in-cheek tune, in which she stitches every bro-country buzzword into a tapestry of buffoonery — “jeans, jeans, jeans, JEANS!” goes the chorus — punctuated by a rap from Yelawolf, which, as Presley recently told Scene contributor Brittney McKenna, “is like the backbone of what all of those people were trying to do on country radio, but he’s doing it for real, and it’s honest.” STEPHEN TRAGESER
