Local quartet Savoy Motel released its self-titled debut album at the end of 2016 on What’s Your Rupture?, the indie label best known for issuing Parquet Courts’ debut ripper. But first-time listeners wouldn’t need much to be convinced that Savoy Motel was a rock gem from 1974 reissued for modern consumption. It’s all T. Rex guitar snarl, bouncing boogie bass lines and deliberately mechanical drum-machine beats, delivered with a knowing wink at its own retro-chicness. Every detail of the production feels like a dance to late-night FM radio in platform boots. P.J. KINZER
