Best Genre-Defying Classical Performance

Wu Fei, a master of the 21-string Chinese zither called the guzheng, has dedicated her career to melding diverse cultures. She has blended the 2,000-year-old performance tradition of her instrument with the experimental practice of New York’s downtown post-minimalist music scene. She brought this distinctive sound to the performance space at Weld last season, creating the musical equivalent of a Trans Pacific Partnership with the indie classical group chatterbird.
