If Mad Men revived the hip aesthetic of the ’50’s and ’60’s for a new generation of culture seekers, Skull’s Rainbow Room in Printers Alley has made it cool for Nashvillians to party like our fathers and grandfathers did. While it’s not necessarily a completely accurate re-creation of the actual fixtures of the show bar and chop house that occupied the space for 50 years from 1948-1998, the new owners have certainly restored the hip vibe of the space. Some of the original decorations have been returned to dress the walls, and the massive wooden bar is quite era-appropriate. The cocktail list and menu of classic American meat-and-potatoes cuisine offer a sincere homage to the days when people liked their scotch neat and their burlesque a little dirty. More and more New Nashvillians are heading to Skull’s for a ride in the time machine. CHRIS CHAMBERLAIN
