The longest freezer case in Nashville (I didn’t measure, but I feel in my heart this is true) sits on Nolensville Pike, in a brightly lit and colorful Mexican ice cream shop just a few blocks from the Nashville Zoo. The contents of this case will make your head spin, with dozens of tubs of freshly made, super creamy ice cream and yards and yards of colorful paletas. The flavors, many of which have been sold in Mexican ice cream shops for decades, will indulge both your adventurous and familiar cravings — options include rice and raisin, strawberries and cream, tequila, pistachio, avocado and even queso. While there, definitely try the mangonada, a parfait-style dessert made with layers of mango sorbet, lime juice, chili powder and chamoy sauce. The bright red condiment is salty, sweet and spicy all at once, and the perfect pungent accompaniment to the smooth, sweet sorbet. MEGAN SELING
