Best Sushi

Soy paper, fried shrimp, cream cheese, avocado, strawberry, nut, eel sauce — by all the rules of logic, that combination should be disgusting. But the Happy Roll at Samurai Sushi proves otherwise, creating a crunchy, fruity bite that’s as whimsical as it is delicious. Skill and creativity are typical of Samurai, and they nail the classics: The smoked salmon nigiri is impeccable. Sitting at the tiny bar with a bottle of sake and a platter of fresh, beautiful fish is the closest Nashville gets to big-city sushi. No reservations, no frills, no krab. ASHLEY BRANTLEY
