Best Food Event

Is $165 a chunk of change? Yes, but the Grand Taste event at September’s Music City Food + Wine Festival is more exciting and diverse than any five-star meal, and a hell of a lot more fun. You get samples from 20 local chefs, absurd quantities of quality hooch, cooking demos (Hugh Acheson making meatloaf), and panels galore (what culinary tools would chefs bring to a desert island?). You can chat with Andrew Zimmern about crab rolls and clams or visit the Martin’s Bar-B-Que live fire section to taste chicken, fish, octopus and such right off the flames. It’s the best food event I’ve attended, here or anywhere. ASHLEY BRANTLEY
