If you’ve never tried Kalamatas’ hummus, don’t — it will ruin all store-bought varieties for you forever. Smooth, creamy, zesty and impossibly light, a smear on a warm homemade pita is like a hug for your cold, dead soul. All of Kalamatas’ food is straightforward and well-seasoned, whether you opt for a juicy lamb gyro, a crisp salad or tangy marinated meat. I don’t know what’s in their salad vinaigrette — some addictive mix of oregano, vinegar, lemon and olive oil — but the pucker factor is so strong my mouth waters just writing about it.
