Best Musical Theater Programming for Pride Month in Nashville 2026: Street Theatre Company’s 'The View UpStairs'
We often think of Pride simply in terms of celebration and empowerment. But with its beautiful production of The View UpStairs, Street Theatre Company reminded us that it’s also a time to remember and honor those who paved the way. Inspired by the horrific 1973 firebombing of the UpStairs Lounge in New Orleans, Max Vernon’s vibrant glam-rock musical provided a powerful meditation on community and resilience. And under the watchful eye of director Deonté L. Warren (with a capable assist from music director Makai Keur), this cast delivered a marvelous season-closer, balancing humor, heartache and powerhouse vocals.
