Best Ceramics Exhibition in Nashville 2026: Julia Martin Gallery Residency

From February through June, Julia Martin Gallery hosted a handful of artists for a six-month micro-residency, and four of them were some of the most interesting ceramicists in Nashville. Ash Atterberry, Megan Curtin, Brooke Gillon and Keavy Murphree are making some weird, beautiful, quirky, adventurous, provocative stuff, and they’re doing it all with clay. Curtin’s 20-inch-tall lamp of a lady holding a lightbulb made me think of Bauhaus ballet dancers, and Gillon’s sensuous serpentine vessel would have fit right in on Medusa’s vanity. In a city overflowing with makers, it’s nice to see there are still plenty of originals.
