Best Abstract Painting Exhibition in Nashville 2026: Demetrius Wilson: 'Aftershadow' at Red Arrow
Back in June, I wrote that New York-based painter Demetrius Wilson’s first solo show at Red Arrow represented changing tides in the national art conversation, where abstract and formalist art is trending. Wilson’s springtime display of abstract landscapes rendered in colorful layers of rough, intuitive brushwork showed Nashville where American painting is headed. This trend bodes well for a local scene that’s always featured many abstract painters, and Aftershadow was another win for Red Arrow, the East Nashville gallery that keeps consistently positioning itself in the national art conversation.
