'In Her Place,' the Nashville Scene’s 2026 Best Nashville Art Book

Best Nashville Art Book in Nashville 2026: 'In Her Place: Nashville Artists in the Twenty-First Century'

In Her Place was the most strikingly original exhibition I saw at the Frist Art Museum in 2026. Not surprisingly, this groundbreaking exhibit produced an equally important book. In Her Place: Nashville Artists in the Twenty-First Century is a beautiful coffee-table art book that surveys the works of 28 prominent Nashville-based women artists. Edited by the Frist’s senior curator Katie Delmez and the Scene’s own arts editor Laura Hutson Hunter, In Her Place is chock-full of insightful essays and gorgeous color photographs. The book’s biggest revelation: Nashville’s artistic community is incredibly diverse. Yet somehow, this multicultural collective has created art that is deeply rooted in the American South. I learned something new on every page, making this book both indispensable and unputdownable.
