Best Restaurant You Don’t Know About

Photo: Daniel Meigs

Peninsula is one of my very favorite restaurants in town: It’s a delightful and ambitious East Nashville spot inspired by the cuisine of the Iberian Peninsula — more specifically, “Spanish and Portuguese fare accented with French techniques.” The food at Peninsula is both sophisticated and comforting, a rare trick. The menu of shareable plates regularly changes, based on seasonal ingredients, but it never disappoints. Complementing the cuisine are delicious drinks from a solid little wine list and the gin-and-tonic bar, a phenomenon popular in Spain. I really love the place, but I’ve noticed that while it’s been open a full year, many people I talk to don’t know about it. Maybe it’s the somewhat obscure location, at the bottom of a mixed-use development just off Gallatin Avenue, behind the Rite-Aid. You now have been officially tipped off. DANA KOPP FRANKLIN
