It’s easy to see why local candy makers and bakers have started to get creative with CBD, or cannabidiol. The nonpsychoactive compound, culled from the cannabis plant, is legal to buy and possess in Tennessee, and several studies suggest it can help relieve symptoms of numerous health issues, including anxiety disorders and chronic pain. This year, vegan baker and The Catio co-owner Beca Lewis Skeels started introducing CBD-enhanced products to her menu, and on April 20 (naturally), Bang Candy released Dream Drops, decadent chocolate truffles with popping candy and 10 milligrams of CBD per piece. The Be-Hive offers CBD brownies and coconut bars at their pop-up deli, and when pastry chef Dani Viet isn’t making magic for The Old School Farm to Table restaurant, she sells her expertly baked CBD treats — including cookies, hand pies and coffee cake — via her account @cbdani_v on Instagram. Dessert is already the best part of the day — now it makes you feel as good as it tastes. MEGAN SELING
