When you first walk into Baked on 8th, it’s impossible not to feel immediately overwhelmed by options — the shop’s countertop is covered with cake plates and platters full of brownies and blondies, coffee cake, cereal treats, scones, cookie sandwiches, hand pies and decorated sugar cookies in shapes like unicorns and cacti. A refrigerated case holds pies and gorgeous cakes, sold whole or by the slice, and almost everything shimmers with a pinch of edible glitter or a smattering of pearlescent sprinkles. The best part: Everything tastes as good as it looks. The blondies are gooey and buttery, the cookies are tender with a satisfying almond flavor, and even the cereal treats are better than most, with a generous pinch of salt to offset the marshmallowy sweetness.
