Not only is Jim Williamson a superb trumpeter, he’s one of the local jazz scene’s patron saints: In addition to his work as director of the Nashville Jazz Orchestra, he recently christened Jazz in the Gulch, a series of shows presented Sundays through Wednesdays at The Cave, a small bar and restaurant in the Gulch that has an intimate vibe much like jazz clubs in New York and San Francisco. That’s four nights a week of the city’s best bop, funk, fusion, salsa and big-band jazz, featuring heavyweights such as Rod McGaha, Roland Barber, Rahsaan Barber, Duffy Jackson and the Aliquo/Simmons Quintet, not to mention Williamson’s esteemed NJO.
