Monthly DJ goth nights were on the rise this year in two separate incarnations. While FooBar’s She’s Lost Control is a magnet for Nashville’s hippest and hottest darkly dressed young adults, The East Room’s Fascination Street has an awkward authenticity that rings truer to the traditional goth DJ night. The evening starts with socially awkward, black- and vinyl-clad introverts drinking quietly in the corners bobbing their heads to the dark, industrial sounds of yore — and it ends with the aforementioned wallflowers well-lubricated and sweating to the oldies until the house lights send them scattering back into the darkness.
