Benjy Russell’s psychedelic photographs create mind-altering landscapes that are sexy as fuck, and surprisingly at home in Lipscomb’s student-run Open Gallery. Aside from that front-and-center sexiness, Russell’s use of practical effects sets his work apart. Take the neon sign from which the exhibit got its name — Russell had the work made and installed it himself inside a cave near his home in Dowelltown, Tenn., on a freezing February morning.
