“No quizzes at the end, just beer.” Damn it, if that’s how it was done in college, I would have gotten my Ph.D. Alas, that philosophy applies only at Science Club, the monthly gathering of science enthusiasts who pull in speakers across a range of topics and then hash it all out over beer, usually at Jackalope Brewing Company. Past sessions have ranged from brainy (“How Organic Chemistry Is Saving Babies”) to crawly (“A Song of Ants and Fire”) to fanboy (“A Ship of Riddles,” about attempts to build a full-scale Millennium Falcon), all led by scientists and experts in their fields. It’s a low-key, sometimes high-tech way to show off your inner nerd. STEVE CAVENDISH
