Last fall, Jay Jenkins — aka Woke3 — organized NORF Wall Fest, a graffiti project in a North Nashville lot that has galvanized neighborhood artists and birthed an artist collective. NORF is everything public art should be — by the people, for the people and with the people — and it looks amazing. Taking over a lot under D.B. Todd Boulevard, artists such as Sam Dunson, Brandon Donahue, Joe Love and the late Brad Wells painted murals that engage social issues affecting the neighborhood. Woke3 received a Metro Arts Commission THRIVE grant for the project, and has programmed two festivals in the spot, attended by North Nashville residents and downtown/Wedgewood-Houston arts folks alike, truly bridging gaps among communities.
