Indie-rock legends and on-again-off-again middle-aged Menudo-like institutions Guided by Voices have had (at least) 21 members over the band’s bizarre, boozy 33-year history. But when lone constant member and benevolent dictator — and drunken Roger Daltrey (who can write better songs than Pete Townshend) — frontman Robert Pollard announced in February that he was rebooting the beloved band once again, we couldn’t have been more pleasantly surprised than when we saw Nashville royalty and avowed GBV superfan Bobby Bare Jr. get the gig as rhythm guitarist. In April, Guided by Voices kicked off their tour at Cannery Ballroom. They played 50 songs (literally). ADAM GOLD
