It’s always great to see new stage directors give us something fresh. David Ian Lee’s two contributions were local premieres — Actors Bridge’s spirited superhero romp Hearts Like Fists (co-directed by Jessika Malone) and Verge Theater’s Skinless, a Southern gothic brooder that mixed rural myth and creepy family business with an equal serving of feminist debate. The latter’s all-female cast, ranging from precocious Alexandra Chopson to veteran Wesley Paine, achieved an ensemble performance style that was rewarding and sophisticated. MARTIN BRADY
