After a seven-year legal battle that allowed Fisk University to sell a 50 percent interest in its Alfred Stieglitz Collection, the artwork was shipped off to its biannual home at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, Ark. But this spring, the greatest collection of art that Nashville can claim made its way back to the city, and palpable tremors rippled through the art scene as Picasso, O’Keeffe, Matisse, Renoir, Dove, Rivera, Toulouse-Lautrec, Alfred Stieglitz and more once again lent their collective gravitas to the walls of the Carl Van Vechten Gallery on the Fisk campus.
