Studio Tenn’s production of the musical Gypsy was strong across the board, but accomplished actress Nan Gurley’s performance as Mama Rose — one of theater’s most challenging roles — was a study in high craft and courage. Her rendition of signature songs “Everything’s Coming Up Roses” and “Rose’s Turn” emerged as both breathlessly heroic and cathartic. MARTIN BRADY
