Best Philoso/Mythical Exhibition

The Labyrinth: Decoded was a collaboration between Nick Hay, who recently left Nashville for Kansas City, and historian and space-exploration pioneer E.C. Piedra. This exhibition hung at the Downtown Presbyterian Church’s Browsing Room gallery in January, and it made use of Cold War-era photographs of U.S. missile silo bunkers, quotes from philosopher Joseph Campbell, and large acrylic paintings on paper to examine the role that storytelling plays in civilization. The Greek myth of Theseus and the Minotaur provided the exhibition’s central symbols, which were mirrored in the artist’s images. JOE NOLAN
